Infestation of Joe’s Pond by Eurasian Watermilfoil

Herbicide Treatment Alternative

The aquatic invasive plant Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM) was discovered in Joe’s Pond in August, 2024.

With support from the VT Agency of Natural Resources, the Joe’s Pond Association (JPA) immediately mobilized its resources to contain and control this non-native aquatic invasive that threatens the social, economic, recreational and ecological values of Joe’s Pond.

As one element of a comprehensive suite of management alternatives, the JPA EWM Management Committee and JPA Board of Directors are considering application of the aquatic herbicide ProcellaCOR in an effort to eradicate the infestation at an early stage of its establishment when the potential for elimination is maximized.

As part of the JPA consideration of this EWM management alternative, and in recognition of the sensitivity, concern and questions about the application of herbicide into Joe’s Pond, the JPA has been conducting a comprehensive outreach program involving the JPA membership and the bordering communities.

In support of this outreach effort by the JPA, the Danville Conservation Commission has offered to sponsor a community forum to allow members of the broader Joe’s Pond community to learn more about this treatment alternative, seek more detailed information, and express their concerns.

The Joe’s Pond EWM Treatment Alternatives community forum is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 20th and the Danville Town Hall.
