May Showers Bring Green Grass!

We are greening up like crazy! Showery days lately and more ahead this week. The weather is cool - perfect for growing grass, but not great for warming up and drying out the soil ready for planting. We'll get there! Right now it's good to be replenishing the water table and seeing the tree buds expanding almost as we watch. We have a variety of frogs and birds chorusing day and night - wonderful to hear. I will be putting out my hummingbird feeder soon - Jamie reminded me that it's about time for them to return. I also have lots of daffodils and a few hyacinths popping up in unexpected places, and I love them. I picked a few yesterday, but it began raining and I had to cut my flower gathering expedition short. As it was, I got pretty cold and damp, so I spent the rest of the day trying to get warmed up.Today we've had fairly steady rain and I have not been outside much except to do a little work getting my porch ready for summer.

Thursday was my 1st Thursday lunch date with middle son, Bob. We ended up at the Upper Valley Grill in Groton, but we stopped first at Brown's Bistro that I remembered as a great place to eat, but the place looks like it's been closed for years. Next door there was a placet called "Sonny's" that looked new and as if it might be a diner of some sort. Not so - it is a cannabis dispensary. We moved on to the Upper Valley Grill, "where two lonely roads meet." It was as good and as much fun as we remembered from visiting it last fall, and the same waitress remembered us! This time we asked if she had raspberry pie and she had one piece left which she reserved for me! It was so good! She does the baking for the place and sure didn't skimp on raspberries. It was about 2 inches thick and a very generous serving. Bob had carrot cake and said it was the best he'd ever had. My hamburger was super big and in order to leave room for the pie, I ate only half and brought the rest home.

This photo shows part of the dining area where there is lots of counter space and several tables, and there is a grocery store is in the rear. Lots going on here most days - and picnic tables outside next to the brook that will be great on a hot summer day.

It was a perfect day to take a road trip. We came home on the Groton State Forrest Road which is excellent. A part of it had been washed out in last summer's storm, but it's all fixed now and is smooth and  good all the way from Rt. 302 to Rt. 2.

Bob skied with Tangeni (his niece pictured left) at Sugarbush during her spring break. They had a great time and that will end their skiing adventures for this year. It was a warm spring day, much different than when he was at Gunstock, NH in March with buddies from the TANK Band, left to right, Rob, Al, Bob.
