Power Outages and Snow Boating

I don't usually post here this early in the morning - but I have a couple of things I was anxious to share with you.

First, the power outage was brief on the west shore of the pond, however, on the east shore power is still out. I'm told it may be restored by Wednesday.

I just received a message from Bourne's Energy that their office phones aren't working. They can be reached by calling their toll-free number, 866-769-3797.

I know what that's like, being without power for days, and when I was younger it was always an adventure and a challenge I thoroughly enjoyed. I had oil lamps at the ready, wood stoves for backup heat and cooking, and it was like stepping into a time capsule. Yesterday, without television, telephone, or my computer for just a few short hours, I was reminded how much I depend on those items. With the generator running, I had heat and everything I needed to keep the house going, but Spectrum was off-line and that meant I had to entertain myself some other way than watching TV or surfing the web.

Also, one adventurous soul decided it was a good time to take a spin up the pond yesterday in his fishing boat. Nancy Buttura took these photos and told me she has no clue who it was or where he ended up - we can only assume he got back to home base safely. I have my suspicions who it was, but perhaps someone will let me know for sure. Being out there could be a bit dangerous, especially if he ran onto some solid ice or some other solid object concealed by the slush and snow. I sure wouldn't want to capsize into that cold water! I have to say - this seems like an extreme way of entertaining oneself during a power outage! Taking a walk or reading a book is much more normal - and safer!

Nancy also sent this picture of Old Homestead Road. Not great conditions, but at least they have been plowed out. Much of the snow that fell Sunday night and greeted us Monday morning melted during the day, but we got a sifting of new snow overnight - not enough to bother anyone, but enough to remind us we're probably into winter mode here at Joe's Pond.

Keep well and be happy playing in the snow!

Jane, I dunno who the person out in the fishing boat was but what I do know is that if it was "back in the day" that it being one of the Dimick boys would be a pretty good bet! :>)
