What a beautiful day! Warm, 66.6 in the shade, but really warm in the sun. The leaves are just getting hints of color, and all the little critters (and some of the big ones, too!) are storing up food for the winter. We've been watching a chipmunk criss-crossing the driveway, busy collecting seeds and crab apples. He reminded us of Louise Seimers, our neighbor on Upper Harrington Hill Road, who used to buy bags of peanuts in the shell to feed to the squirrels and chippies. She had lots of other visitors, as well, but they kept her company. We don't feed any of the wildlife except with our apple trees. We have wondered where the deer are that usually come for the apples under the tree in our back yard. We haven't seen any at all this year, and no turkeys, either. We saw plenty of turkeys in the pasture with the cattle at the Burtt farm when we went to the soccer game in Cabot yesterday afternoon. And Burtt's were very busy at the apple and vegetable stand.

The soccer game was fun last night. It was held at the field on the Marshfield side of

Cabot Village instead of the one by South Walden Road. It was quite pleasant there - the sun was warm and it's a really nice spot. The game was fun to watch. It was third graders, Cabot vs. Waterford. Even at that age, the boys seemed to play harder than the girls. It was interesting to watch boys and girls playing on the same team. Waterford won, but Cabot put up a good fight and I think the score was 4-2 or something like that. I'd say the teams were pretty evenly matched except Waterford has more players. They all put a lot of effort into the game and it was fun to watch.

The tip photo is part of the Waterford team - Tangeni is fifth from the left (watching her grandfather take he picture); mixing it up in the middle shot, and below, hugs from Dad and Grandma after a triumphant "We won!"  It wasn't that long ago we were watching her big sister play and Tangeni was the "mascot" at White Mountain School games. They sure do grow up fast. We'll sent photos of this game to her sister Jo-Ann, in Austin, Texas.

I just finished my favorite breakfast - yogurt, blueberries, and honey with a sprinkle of All-bran and walnuts for crunch. That is GOOD feed! My coffee has gone cold, so I'm going to reheat that in the microwave and then get to work on the book. Wrapping things up is a big job, too. There are odds and ends that we're suddenly getting from people - bit of memories, pictures and suggestions - that we want to incorporate. We've actually had a donation of a rather large piece of ice-cutting equipment for the historical society! We are very happy there is such enthusiasm for our book. Now to just get everything pulled together . . . !

Spring Mix!

I started this a couple days ago but got kind of busy and never got back to it. I had posted about the Route 2 construction, but that notice...
