The sun finally came out this afternoon and it turned out to be a pretty nice day. Fred caught this visitor to our hummingbird feeder just as he was getting ready to try a sip. Fortunately none of the hummingbirds were around - I expect they wouldn't care to share.
I measured about half an inch of rain this morning, making the total for the last couple of days about 1.25 in. Not a huge amount, but the ground is pretty well soaked. It will be nice to have at least tomorrow to dry things out a bit before we get into another rainy week. Besides being wet, the temperature has been in the 50's or low 60's, and that leaves everything clammy, inside and out. Great weather for growing grass.
There have been some very nice stories on television in honor of Father's Day this week, so of course I began to wonder how it all came about. I found some interesting facts in Wickipedia. The role fathers play today is much different from when I was growing up, or even when my kids were growing up. Now, men and women share parenting in ways we never dreamed of; and that's all good, I guess. It's nice that mothers and fathers have special days in their honor. It seems to me that Father's Day still doesn't have quite the sentimental quality that Mother's Day does, though. Oh, well. I don't see that as a huge problem - and it probably still gives the economy a little bump up.
Enjoy the day, whether you are a father or not. The weather is going to cooperate, and dad's everywhere will be trying on their new ties or whatever, and loving all of it.
