It's a pretty nice little "mini mall" where Plainfield Hardware is. It used to be Hutchinson's Gardens, and we used to stop there for plants and vegetables when we worked in Montpelier. Later on it became Legare's, still a garden center, and now the Plainfield Hardware folks have built a very nice new log building for the hardware business, and also have a lunch counter with a few tables to serve breakfast and lunch, a grocery section, lots of pet supplies, and a large greenhouse. Kind of one-stop shopping.

We're in for a rainy day, according to the weather folks. I had .18 in. of rain in my gauge this morning and it's 60 degrees, so really a very mellow kind of day - just what we need to get farm crops going. Great weather for growing grass. Fred will have to mow again the first day it's dry enough.
A few days ago I wrote about not finding square saltine crackers in the stores last week. I received an e-mail from a man in Georgia --
I went to the local Super Walmart where I live in Hartwell, GA after
reading your post just to see if there were still square saltines and
there were still some there, both by Nabisco and Great Value, Walmart's
own brand. I will have to keep checking the shelves for a while just
to see if the square saltines disappear.
It will be interesting to see if this trend continues. We were in Plainfield yesterday and stopped at the Plainfield Hardware Store for piece of stovepipe we needed to complete the installation of our new wood stove in the basement, and took a few minutes to browse through the other departments in their store. We found the original square saltines in their grocery section, too. I'm guessing some stores will have them for a while, but when they have to reorder, they will get the round ones.
