I'm beginning to wonder what's holding that pallet up! It doesn't seem to change, no matter what else is happening around it. This picture, although it looks just like the one taken this morning, was taken at 7 p.m. We've had sunshine all day and a brisk wind out of the north or northwest, and we thought surely the pallet would either sink or move with the ice floe, but it seems to remain "frozen" in place.

Things have changed around it, though. The big hole that was close by the pallet has merged with open water now
, and there is more open water along the Barre Avenue shore, leaving plenty of space for the ice to move, but that just doesn't seem to be happening.

We'll keep on checking, and report as soon as something happens.

Fred and I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday celebration.
