NOTICE: The Cabot Recreation Committee will meet tonight at 6:30 PM in the Willey Building.

We have a lovely day today, not quite as warm as yesterday, but still in the high 40s and with sunshine. Last night the wind was ferocious, but it's pretty calm now with just a few gusts - good to dry things out a bit.

We are still watching the channel coming into the pond. I took this picture a few minutes ago and you can see the water is overflowing the banks. Diane Rossi told me this morning they are seeing water along the shore at their place and water on top of the ice in their boathouse. The ice in there is firmly attached to the bottom, so as the pond fills with all this runoff from our recent rain, it's coming on top of that ice. The water level in the pond will dislodge the ice from around the shore and hasten the melting process.

We're getting more reports of high water. Water was over Rte 15 in Cambridge yesterday and 302 in Groton; this morning Bill Dimick reported it was creeping across Rte 5 in St. Johnsbury Ctr. by Thurston Auto this morning. I heard reports yesterday on the scanner of plugged culverts and the road crews were busy.

I don't know how our roads are - we try not to travel over them any more than we absolutely have to this time of year - but on Saturday, Jamie Dimick said there were a couple bad spots on Cabot Plains Road going to Cabot. The road from here to Rte 2 is passable, but rough and muddy in spots. The rain we had will help take the frost out more quickly (think running cold water over something from your freezer), but it can also make really good mud on the surface above the frost. We can see that the roads are still raised way above their normal elevation - all due to the ground being frozen deeply. Our paved driveway is raised, too, and there are a couple new cracks in it; but that's life in the north country.

.  It's been a few days since I blogged, and it seems like I've been really busy; that said, I can't actually say I accomplished...
