We're getting some interesting weather today. A thunder storm began around 7:30 a.m. and lasted for about an hour with heavy downpour. I measured nearly an inch of rain at 9 a.m., and most of it had come in that one hour. We have lots of fog right now, but it clears from time to time. The temperature has slid down to 46 from a high of 48 during the storm. Lots of water and flooding going on. I'm hearing chatter on the scanner about driveways being washed out and water over Rt3 302 in Groton area.
First thing we checked this morning was the channel leading into the pond, and it has opened up noticeably. We can't say for sure, but it looks to us as if the water is very high, too, so there is a lot of water coming into the pond this morning from not only the channel, but all the little brooks that run into it, too. That will begin lifting the ice and releasing it from the shore. Spring is definitely here, with attitude.
