Today is turning out to be sunny and very spring-like. The temperature is about 34 degrees here at our house, and although there was a lot of wind earlier this morning, now it seems to have calmed down as the sun got brighter.

I took this picture from our window at around 9:30 this morning. The trees at higher elevations were frosted and beautiful.

Here is a message I received this morning:

Correction – The Library is terribly sorry for an error in the 2009 Town of Cabot Annual Report. In the Report, we stated the book, P. Allen Smith’s Bringing the Garden Indoors was given “in memory” of Roberta Bothfeld. It should read “in honor” of Roberta Bothfeld.

We apologize to Roberta’s family, friends, and the community for this inaccuracy.

I was going through my e-mails this morning and entrealized Tucky Sancibrion had sent a couple of photos taken earlier this month when so much snow was piled onto the southern states. Tucky and Frank live in S. Carolina. Here's what she wrote:

Had never seen this before in almost 17 years - think maybe we had a dusting a couple of times but not this much! It was really pretty this morning and I realized how much I miss that at times.

It does look pretty - we would enjoy having a good measure of fresh snow right about now; although I say that with reservations because we need to be careful what we wish for. We could get a lot of snow right when we don't want it, like during sugaring season, or after the flowers are up and the trees are budded. March and April can deliver significant amounts of heavy, wet snow.

For now, we're basking in sunshine warm temps and feeling good that it hasn't been a "hard" winter. Fred pointed out we've used a lot less wood this year. We've had some nights that were well below zero, but it generally warmed up during the days and there weren't endless days AND nights of below-zero temperatures like we sometimes have.

I've been working on newspaper clippings in a book Adessa Lance kept. There is writing inside, "Miss Adessa Lance, Cabot, Vermont," and below that, "137 Ashuelot Street, Dalton, Mass." I don't know if she's the "Odesa K Lance" who married Robert C. Lance in 1931. That "Odesa" was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lance, of Lower Cabot; the groom was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lance of Stowe. In other clipping there is mention of "Odessa" being William Lance's daughter. There are often differences in spellings of names in old records, often because of faded and/or poor handwriting, or errors by newspapers.

There are interesting clippings about births, marriages and deaths mostly during the 1920's and 1930's, and a few general news items. No doubt when I get these all into the proper albums and indexed, there will be other connections that will explain better who Adessa was. In the meantime, I need to press on to get things finished.

Spring and Reminders

This has been a busy weekend for me. I think the nice weather brought out not only the buds on trees and flowers, but it energized people. I...
