Today was our day to go to St. Johnsbury to do errands. We accomplished a lot - going every two weeks makes it a bit more frantic, but I really like not having to go into town every week. There wasn't much going on there - the weather was mild but not sunny and there was hardly any snow. Fred was driving on the way home so I took pictures. I started off to show you how little snow there was, then I got caught up in the fun of clicking away and ended up with nearly 50 pictures, some of which I have deleted you'll be happy to know, but there are still about 40 in the slide show. (On one you'll notice I mentioned going over I-93; it should be I-91.)
It's sort of a travelogue I guess, but you may find it interesting. Slides

We received the printed Cabot Town Report in the mail today, and when I went to my e-mail, there was a p.d.f. copy of it there, so I asked Fred to put it on the web site, so anyone who is interested can go to home page of www.joespondvermont.com and find it on the menu at the left of the page. It may take a little while to load as it's a very large file.

There were also a couple of Cabot Library announcements in my e-mail today:

Tuesday, March 9th from 7 to 8:30 pm

Join Cabot resident Ben Hewitt for a reading from his new book, The Town That Food Saved, which will be published by Rodale on March 16. Hewitt spent a year examining the past, present, and potential future of Hardwick's evolving local food system, which has been the subject of recent national media attention. From the young entrepreneurs that are energetically promoting the region's unique agricultural make up, to the old timers wary of the spotlight, The Town That Food Saved considers the ways in which food can be the basis for both nourishment and community. Open discussion to follow.

Tuesday, March 30th from 7 to 8:30 pm

Critical Thinking and Weird Things
Chip Taylor will attempt to do a “really accurate” horoscope for anyone present, show why multi-tasking (such as texting while driving) is actually impossible, test a counterfeit detecting pen against real and counterfeit money, and perhaps even demonstrate the effects of overdosing on homeopathic sleeping pills. (If he falls asleep he promises that there will be a video you can watch!)

I got the following message from Homer; he sent it to a heap of people on his mailing list, so some of you may already have it --

So you folks in Florida know that Homer is headed your way - WITH ICE-OUT TICKETS!
Way to go, Homer!! We all know what a great P.R. man Homer is, and what a great supporter he is of our Joe's Pond Association. He's definitely appreciated around here.

Another that's greatly appreciated and also a long-standing P.R. man for the Ice-Out Contest, is Don Walker. He just called me today for more tickets! Both Don and Homer are old timers at this game and particularly well-suited to sell tickets - one is a retired auto dealer and the other retired from retail sales, and both have been involved since the late Jules Chatot and some buddies came up with the idea.

I was thinking on the way home today about how all our members have pitched in to sell tickets this year. Seems like more members are asking for more tickets than ever before. That really keeps the contest lively and will hopefully build the winnings to exceed last year's amount - $4,965.

By the way, we went to Natural Provisions at the corner of Maple Street and Railroad Street in St. Johnsbury today to see if they needed any Ice-Out tickets. They are a new outlet, thanks to owner and Joe's Ponder, Terry Powers. Terry has tickets at his Williston, Vermont store, too, at 329 Harvest Lane, off Williston Road.
