Hot Day for the Fair

It was a hot day today for the Danville Fair, but even though the sky looked threatening during the afternoon, no rain came, and that was good for fair-goers. However, we do need rain. The ground is very dry and I'm noticing that my lawn is barely growing at all now. So far I don't have brown spots, but if we don't get rain soon, crops are going to be threatened.

Another event is coming up soon in Danville - the Ken-Ducky Derby! I received this notice:

I had some errands to do in Cabot Village Friday, and on my way there, I went out Brickett's Crossing Road and over to see the new bridge where the rail-trail crosses over busy Route 15 at Walden Heights. I remember the old railroad bridge, and this one seems to be higher, but it doesn't seem to be high enough to accommodate some of the very large trucks that are on the road today. I'm sure the engineers who worked out the design for the overpass know much better than I, but I bet drivers of some of those big rigs will proceed with caution - and of course the road is much wider than it used to be at that overpass. I'm not quite sure if I should call it an "overpass" or an "underpass." I guess it depends on whether one is on the rail-trail or the highway! It's nice to have that in place, and progress seems to be good finishing up the trail. The bridge over the channel on Channel Drive here at Joe's Pond is not finished yet. There were some repairs done on that, apparently the side rails are being replaced, and probably some other repairs or improvements. Time and weather take a toll on outdoor structures.
