My day started out to be a disappointment. Randy and Arnold (the new helper on this job) didn't arrive this morning as expected, but I had a call from Bill Jones saying he would be here to do some work we'd planned a few months ago. I had a meeting in St. Johnsbury, and Bill arrived just as I was leaving, so I was able to get things settled and moving ahead on that job. Just as I was leaving the house, I decided I'd better check my email one more time, and when I did, I learned I had an unexpected meeting at the historical society in Danville. I had expected to be back home by 10:30 or so, but I knew Bill Jones was ok working on his own - he has worked for me many times before, so I let him know my change of plans and took off.
Both of my meetings went well and when I arrived home at about noon, Lloyd Rowell was here to hitch up my heating element that had to be disconnected to allow for the new door to the porch to be installed. Just as Lloyd was leaving, Ben Ackermann stopped by to let me know he will be here either Friday or Monday to start clearing for the pond.
Although I was a bit disappointed that Randy didn't get back to finish the inside trim around the door, so much else was going on, I decided it had been a really productive day after all. I don't know when Randy will get back, and I'm expecting cousins to visit tomorrow. I think it may be a rainy day, so if Randy is here, they will be working inside - and that won't work very well when we're trying to converse. That's the way things work out sometimes, though. If it is warm enough, we can sit on the porch, perhaps. We'll see how it goes. I think Bill Jones will be back tomorrow, but he's working on the garage doors, so no bother there. We'll figure it out.
I hesitated to post the news that Garey Larrabee had a stroke last Friday until I could verify it, so today I stopped at the store and spoke with Jenny who confirmed that. He was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock hospital but is back home now, doing pretty well, although he will need some work on some major arteries to help his progress. In the meantime, I'm sure he'd like to have cards and messages. You can send them to him at P. O. Box 58, West Danville, VT 05873, or drop them off with Jenny at the store. Jenny said he's having a bit of trouble with his speech, so phone calls may not be a great idea just yet. We wish him a speedy recovery, for sure.
Here's an important announcement from Susan Bouchard:
The final Sunfish Sailboat race for 2021 is this Sunday, August 22 with the race starting at 1pm sharp. Any sailors interested in racing please contact me for a registration form if not already done so for the season. If you don't have a boat but want to sail, or if you have a Sunfish that you no longer use, please get in touch with me so I can possibly match sailors with boats. If a rain date is needed, it will be the following Sunday, August 29th.
Susan can be reached at 802-563-2716, or email her at: ChatotBouchard@comcast.net.
