Back on the Job!

Randy and Arnie are putting the steps on the porch today. The have had temporary ones in place so they could get on and off the porch easily, but now the finished ones will go in. I'll be glad to have those as there will be hand rails on either side - There are only four steps, but still, not having a hand rail to grab took some getting used to. Like everything else, we usually adapt, and after the first few trips up or down, I literally took them in stride. I don't trust my balance these days as much as when I was a few decades younger!

Yesterday was a rainy day and normally would have been gloomy and uneventful, but my cousins from Barre visited in the afternoon, and that was very nice. I haven't seen them for well over a year - and it was very nice to catch up with them.

I had to take a quick break just now because Ben Ackermann came to leave off his big dozer. He stopped by on Wednesday to let me know he'd be here either today or Monday to start the pond. It will be fun to watch that develop. I don't expect to get much work done while he's here because I'll be out on the porch watching!

I just measured .49 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. Everything is lush and green - I don't believe I've ever noticed grass, bushes and trees growing quite as fast and as well as they have this summer. All of a sudden, trees and bushes are overflowing onto my lawn, and only a couple of days after being mowed, the grass is already looking long again. It's nice to see this time of the year when sometimes things begin to look pretty tired and dried out. I have noticed a patch of faint color on a few trees here and there, though. Fall colors will appear about on schedule, regardless of how green things are now.

Here is an article that Carmen Gagne asked me to post. Click to make it larger to read.

Also, an announcement from Sue LaGue:

I just wanted to remind people the Cocktail Social is Saturday Aug 21, 4-7.  All are invited, please bring an appetizer to share.  It's $5 at the door, a DJ will provide music and there will be a raffle. Since it is also 100 years since the Joe's Pond Association was formed, Jamie Dimick has compiled photos into a computer slide show of Joe's Pond over the years.   Linda Livandale and Sue Yesalonia are co-chair of this event.
