Pickleball Tournament

The photos and the results of the Pickleball Tournament held this weekend at the Joe's Pond Recreation Area are here! Both Tom Segale and Joanne Stewart sent photos, (see below) and Tom sent this message:

Hello all. I just wanted to thank you all for another great PICKLEFEST fundraiser. We ended up with 28 players spanning 9 decades.  A new record!  And we raised $1450 dollars to help keep the courts in good shape.  What a pleasure it was to play on such nice courts this year.

Congrats to Mark Nicholson for earning the most points and Scott and Julie taking the doubles.  Mark and Diane were runners up!  And we also started  a “pickle knockout game” this year which was a lot of fun to play.

And thanks to the 7 teams who participated in our first team competitive round robin tourney today.  We got a lot of games in and had a lot of fun doing it.

And a special thanks to Louie, Pam and Joanne for all their help with the PICKLEFEST! It was lots of fun all the way around. Also, a big thanks to the Crosbys for hosting the "after party"!

The weather cleared Saturday around noon and the air was much less humid. The sun was nice straight through the weekend and today it was downright chilly until the sun got well up. The air is beginning to feel (and smell) like fall. I noticed a few trees showing a tinge of color as I drove up West Shore Road last week. It will probably be an amazing year for color - the weather has been so strange, the maple trees are likely to be somewhat stressed, and I think that's when we get more vivid colors. That said, we really never know. Perhaps the scientists know, but like Vermont weather, our fall foliage is often unpredictable.

My porch is just about done. They finished the outside details this morning and will start on the steps this afternoon. There is some finish work to be done on the inside, but first I have more staining and painting to do. I will also have to put something on the inside of the sliding doors. I'm not sure how I'm going to finish them, but I think I'll need to do some staining to have them blend with the rest of the woodwork. I love natural wood grain showing. The outside is all nicely weather sealed in vinyl, and I like that, too. I was able to clean up some vinyl siding left over from when my parents put it on many years ago, and it looks like new. It's a good thing my father saved all those odds and ends and I've managed to keep them all this time.

I'll probably have photos to post tonight or first thing tomorrow. This is Day 21 on the job. They have been here somewhat longer, but I've only counted the days they were actually able to work. There were several rain days along the way when they couldn't work. I think I'm going to miss having them here. The "new" helper, Arnie, is a really nice guy and seems to enjoy his work. I watched them putting the screen on the slider, and he and Randy work well together. They almost finish each other's sentences. A good sign.

Another Adventure

This week turned out to be a doozie for me. I had anticipated going for a follow-up on my knee on Monday, but instead ended up in the ER at ...
