We are sorry to learn that Leon Ellsworth Hopkins, husband of Gloria Biron (47 Pt. Comfort Rd.) passed away on November 8, 2019. Leon grew up in the Northeast Kingdom and his family was well known in the St. Johnsbury/Lyndonville area. Friends of the family may send condolences to Gloria at: Gloria Biron Hopkins, 890 Lyle-Young Rd., E. Montpelier VT 05651, or to her son (Leon's step-son), Emile Biron at 539 Burroughs Rd., Boxborough MA 01719.
We had another two inches of snow fall yesterday and last night. And, it is COLD. The temperature when I made my report to CoCoRaHS this morning was 8.9 and now it's up to all of 9.1, with a gusty wind that makes it feel like at least 5 below zero. The sun is struggling to shine through the frost particles and blowing snow, and while the wind isn't constant, just gusty, it's still a miserably cold day. I was outside long enough to take the measurements I need and quickly cleared snow off the deck so it will be ready for the next measurement, but Fred did his usual runs up Jamie & Marie's hill. The snow is so light, I don't think he will blow out the driveway again - it probably wouldn't do much good with so much snow flying around with the wind. He'll wait until it settles.
I'm wondering if anyone has a memory or or perhaps saved newspaper clippings of the time two prisoners that were being transported by a sheriff jumped out of the car at the intersection in West Danville and were on the loose in the community for a little while? They broke into a home on Wightman Road and took the couple's car. It was quite a story and had people on edge for a few days. It was in the 1980s. If you recall details of that or happened to save clippings, we (who are writing the history of W. Danville) would be very interested in hearing from you. Get in touch with me at janebrowncabot@gmail.com or give me a call, 802-563-2381.
Now, back to finishing up a few more stories and tying up loose ends on the history book. We are all working on our final chapters for the book - it won't be published in time for Christmas, but will certainly be available soon after. We haven't a time frame on that as a lot will depend on the needs of our editor, graphic designer, and printer. Lots of decisions yet to be made, but the writing process is rapidly coming to a close and the book will certainly be published in early 2020.
Enjoy your day, wherever you are. Stay warm (or cool), safe and be happy.
