We had a call from Tangeni, our third grader granddaughter today. Tomorrow i Grandparents' Day at Waterford School - we get muffins, coffee and juice! We've been to this event before, and it's really great fun. We get to meet the kids and chat with other grandparents, and we also get to see the classroom where our pride and joys spend their days. Usually there are school papers and projects each child has been working on, but since Tangeni missed the first several days of school (because she was in Africa) we aren't expecting there will be much evidence of her work so far this year. It will be interesting. She has a new teacher this year, and that will be a new experience for her (and for us) as she had the same one for first and second grades.
We covered our tomato plants tonight and I brought in the one hanging plant I had outside this year. It's time. I'm seeing 51.7F right now, but by morning it could be quite a bit chillier. That will move the leaves along to turn, no doubt. Right now everything is getting a brownish look around the edges of our lawn. Some of the grasses and small bushes are turning, and of course, the goldenrod is blooming, so there's that dull yellow everywhere! And it's smelling like fall. I was outside working for a little while late this afternoon and noticed how chilly it got as the sun dropped behind the hill. Days are shorter and growing season is definitely over. It's been a good summer.
