Joe's Pond's Little Mermaid

What a beautiful day this was! Can't get 'em much more perfect that this. To make it even better, we took a "let's run away" day and slipped over to Littleton for lobster rolls at "99" - a special treat we enjoy every once in a while. And we were not disappointed. Lots of big chunks of lobster meat and I totally pigged out. I looked at it as a reward for having done a lot of work on the history book these past couple of weeks, and Fred was only too happy to break our routine and take a few hours off.

While we were gone, the family in Namibia called, but then they called later in the afternoon so we got to talk with both girls. Everyone is fine except both Jo-Anne and Tangeni have colds, but they said they are still enjoying their visit. Their mom, Monika, is going to Angola to visit her great grandmother. The others can't go because they don't have proper papers and if they got into Angola, they might not be able to return to Namibia. I'll be relieved to know when Monika returns. Angola is in a constant state of upheaval, and I'm afraid it might not be safe even for her and her mother to travel there. Her great grandmother is well over 100 years old, so I can understand Monika's wish to see her while she is in Africa this time.

This picture was taken at Joe's Pond today! Just imagine! We all know Joe's Pond is a special paradise, but who would have guessed we have our very own real live  mermaid, too!?   We found out her name is Alyssa and she was spotted  on the west shore by photographer Nancy Temple. Thank you, Nancy for sharing this amazing photo.
