The rains came - but not uniformly, by any means.  I measured .96 in. this morning, but neighbors like Sheffield reported .04, Hardwick .26, St. Johnsbury .19, etc.  There seemed to be a section including here and Danville (.81 and 1.16 in.) that got the most.  Even another location in Cabot - south of us, I think - reported only .53 in.  Strange how that goes sometimes.
The foliage seems a little brighter today - perhaps the rain washed off some of the dust.  It's still mild at 66 degrees, so not an unpleasant day by any means.
We had logger, Paul Ruta, look over a section of our property yesterday where we want to have mature trees removed.  We've had sections logged twice since we've lived here, but the hill between us and Jamie and Marie's has not been touched.  The trees are very tall and some would certainly come down if we had a really hard wind storm.  We'd rather take them down purposefully than have them come down willy-nilly and perhaps disrupt power or block driveways.  Paul lives in Cabot and logs with horses.  We are excited to have him work here - previous times we've had machines do the work, and the forest floor has been cut up severely.  We won't have that this time.  Perhaps a new "logging road," but no deep ruts to fill with water.  And no roaring machinery. We don't know when he will start, but we are looking forward to working with him.
Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts - we're in for a rainy spell next week when another tropical storm makes it's way from the Gulf up the eastern coast.  We can certainly use the rain - and then it will be getting cooler each day as we head towards winter.  If the crazy weather patterns hold, this should be an interesting winter!
