I've been looking through The Federation of Vermont Lakes and Ponds, Inc. newsletter that arrived last week. Kellie Merrell, Aquatic Ecologist for Vermont ANR, who now tests our water for bacteria, has an article; also there's an interesting article on page 10 by Molly Moran and Jacob Ebersole, students at St. Michael's College and Dartmouth College, respectively, about climate change impacts in Vermont; and Eric Hanson, who has worked with us to encourage the return of loons at Joe's Pond, has an interesting update on page 11. Most of the theme for this issue is lake shore preservation - and the legislation Bill H.526. Our Joe's Pond Association members who own lake shore property will be directly affected in that any NEW construction or clearing of vegetation will be regulated with new standards set by the State of Vermont, so you may want to follow the link above if you haven't already examined the proposed legislation.
Just a quick note - for those of you who may not be on Front Porch Forum, there has been some very nice buzz about Butters Restaurant recently. It seems they may be enjoying some new interest since reopening at the back of the hardware store in Cabot. They serve breakfast, lunch, and takeout.
