I'm up early, needing to get ready for a busy day at the Cabot Historical Society. Today is big in Cabot - there's a parade, BBQ, big rummage/flea market sale at the gym, and activities at the recreation field. I'll be at the HistSoc building, but will certainly be on hand for the parade and may break away briefly to get outside for some of the other stuff that will be going on. This is usually a busy day for us at the museum.
The picture above was taken yesterday, late in the afternoon.
We were away last evening, having dinner at the Eastside Restaurant and Pub in Newport, (short slide show) but we got home just in time for the fireworks over Joe's Pond. The JPA didn't have the large donations this year that added to the event last year, but I thought the display was very nice. As some of you know, the money from our Ice-Out Contest contributes to the fireworks each year, and our members are generous about donating, too. So Fourth of July fireworks is pay-back time for all of you who bought those $1 tickets last year. Tickets are available for our 2013 contest - they are on line here on the website, and available at Hastings Store or by contacting Diane Rossi or me.
Here's a new approach to the problem of geese on the shores of our pond this year. Thanks to Henretta Splain for sharing this: (Be sure your speakers are on.) A Talking Goose.
And now I'm off to Cabot Village. Hope to see some of you at the parade, and maybe you'll stop by the Historical Society for a cup of coffee and one of Bonnie's doughnuts. I'd love to show you around our museum. Have a great Fourth!
