Work
Update
Danville
Route 2 Project
Project: Danville FEGC
028-3(32)
WEEK
OF 6/11/12
Project
Note: An
inquiry was made about the current width of the Walden Hill Road access. The work on the access is not complete
at this time. There is a utility
wire which needs to be relocated before the area can be widened any
further. The pavement is also
narrow in this area because curbing will need to be installed before crews can
pave to the edge of the roadway.
Curb
and sidewalk work is scheduled to start after the street light electrical
conduit installation is complete.
Village
Green:
Monday
– 6/11/12: Crews will be reclaiming the existing
roadway on Park Street, Peacham Road and Smith Street throughout the day. This work will require alternating road
closures around the Green. Traffic
control will be present to redirect motorists around the reclaim
operations.
Route
2 Roadwork:
West
End of Project: Crews
will be installing street light electrical conduit from Passumpsic Bank to the
Danville School. This work will be
concentrated to the south side (same side as Passumpsic Bank) of Route 2. Two-way traffic will be maintained while
this work is being performed.
East
End of Project: Crews
will be installing under drainage on both sides of Route 2 from Marty’s and will
work their way towards the center of town.
This work will require alternating one-way traffic throughout the
week. Traffic control will be
present to maintain traffic flow.

Those of you who may be interested in joining the activities organized by the Friends of the Winooski, should check out the schedule on the website, www.winooskiriver.org
They have some interesting programs planned.
The headwaters of the Winooski River are in the Town of Cabot, at Coits Pond. The river runs through Cabot and Lower Cabot, and supplied power for early mills in both settlements. Today, this northernmost section of the river is hardly mostly a docile stream running through fields and pastures, behind the businesses in Cabot Village on past foundations of mills and dams that once were part of Cabot's life blood. It meanders past the beautiful Durant Cemetery in Cabot's lower village and on past one of the few hydro-electric plants still in operation, where its size increases with the addition of flow from Molly's Pond. From there on, through Marshfield Village, Plainfield and East Montpelier, it gains in velocity and size until it empties into Lake Champlain at Colchester.
Normally mild mannered and gentle, the Winooski becomes a serious threat when swollen by heavy rain or spring runoff, overflowing its banks and tearing at the foundations of buildings and bridges. Efforts to control the damage it can do and preserve its beauty at the same time are on-going.
