It was a pretty nice morning - no sunshine, but it wasn't awfully cold, and the first two ponds were almost like glass, they were so still. The big pond had some wave action, but even that was remarkably quiet, as you can see by this picture. It was still a pretty fall day, even without the sun.
After we left the scene of the junk car, we went to Danville on an errand. It's amazing - it seemed this morning that no matter which direction one looked, things were in upheaval mode. It must be very difficult for merchants and the people who live next to Route 2. The clatter and mud and blasting must just about drive folks crazy. And it goes on almost 24/7.
When we got back to West Danville, things were very busy there, too. Lots of cars and tourists around, and as we were leaving, this big piece of equipment came through. It looked to us like part of the a windmill - we've seen similar objects moving through town before, but they were going north, while this one was heading south. Of course, it could have been something entirely different, but we wondered if it was headed for Sheffield.
I guess it's time to pull in the remaining tomatoes and cukes from our garden. The weather is going to be clearing, starting tomorrow, but with that comes very cold nights, and they are not going to withstand temperatures in the 20s. It's ok, we've had a good run with them.
We're hearing reports of snow in the Rocky Mountains and Appalachians, so it won't be long before we have it here. The few flakes we had about a week ago really didn't amount to anything - in fact, I didn't see any, but there were reports - probably people who lived near Burke Mt. or in Stowe or Jay. I have recorded 1.30 in. of rain so far this month, but I haven't put out my snow board yet. I guess it's nearly time, although October is sometimes a really nice month around here.
So now I'll head out to the garden. The temperature is dropping - 53 right now, at 4 p.m., but we still have plenty of cloud cover, so tonight may not be too cold after all.
Before I sign out, I just clicked to publish this and when I did, a box saying "We buy junk cars" popped up. I'm always totally amazed that what I write here (and probably other places, too) is monitored so that someone, somewhere, can zero in on something I may need, be interested in, or have just written about . . . it boggles the mind!!
