This came from Evelyn and Ray Richer today:

Hi Jane... Just got word back from Eric Hanson that we have the first loon chicks in the state again this year (as far as he knows) many pairs haven't even nested yet but they are 'interested' in nesting. There is still time for the loons of West Danville to renest (they too, are "interested") Ray checked on the family last night, and they are doing just fine. Both adults were busy feeding each chick when he watched them. The chicks did not show any sibling rivalry which is a very healthy, and encouraging sign. Stay warm! Evelyn

Thank you, Evelyn. I hope the West Danville pair find a safe place for their nest, but I expect the fluctuating water level is making them a little crazy trying to find a likely spot to build. Darned rainy weather!

Here's a photo of the Danville baseball team. Kevin Johnson sent it to me with this note:

I thought I would send you a picture of Danville's 2011 championship baseball team. Kyle played 3rd base and pitched this year. Danville / Kyle made it to the championship this year in soccer (won), basketball (lost) and now baseball (won 15-1 over Blue Mnt.) Not bad for a freshman. Thought some of the campers (especially the ones he mows lawns for) would like to know.
Kevin

Back row - Asst. coach Randal Mcgrath, Ian Sackett, Kyle Johnson, Andrew Gilbert, Ross Randall, Harwant Sethi, Jacob Mills, Brett Elliott, Matt Chamberlin and coach Dave Chamberlin. Front row - David Marthers, Mark Kuligoski, C.J. Bigelow, Scott Remick, Brandon Gadapee, Derick Chamberlin and Robert Drown

That's quite a record! Congratulations to Kyle and the rest of the young men on the team. Good looking group, and obviously great athletes. Nice to see, and thank you, Kevin, for sending the photo and note.
