Here's a loon update:

Just a quick note: The loon chicks (of Cabot) have arrived on Joe's Pond... The first chick hatched Friday morning [June 10th] (during the wee hours) the second chick arrived this morning [Sunday, June 12th] (also in the wee hours... like about 3 am) They both seem very healthy, they are both being fed well, and show little sibling rivalry... they have left the cove for the main pond, so we hope everyone will watch for them... They are hanging out just outside the cove, this side of the islands. Just a reminder to give them space on the pond; don't go too close with the boats, canoes or kayaks... They will soon be 'parading the family' along the usual shorelines for all to admire :o) Have a great summer! Blessings, Evelyn and Ray

That is good news, and thank you, Evelyn!
We are all wondering if the West Danville loons will have a family this year. That could be a bit daunting for them since they don't have a floating nest like the Cabot loons. One thing that is really not good for loon nests is a fluctuating water level, and this year has been an unusually troublesome one in that regard.

We will continue to pass on information about the loon twins at this end of the pond whenever Evelyn checks in.

I measured another .22 in. of rainfall this morning. We've had over an inch and a half of rain since last Thursday morning. We got about half an inch Thursday night, and a little over an inch over the weekend. I guess June is going to be another wet month for the record books. My garden is showing the effects - not many of the peas I planted a few weeks ago came up, and everything else seems to be getting a slow start. The only thing that's flourishing around here is g
rass and the black fly population.

We had to go to St. J. early this morning and although we allowed extr
a time in order to get through the construction area, we weren't held up at all. We were impressed, too, that there seems to be plenty of opportunity to turn onto side streets to get to places like the bank, school, Danville restaurant, town offices, Bentley's, Diamond Hill and Marty's. We made a couple of stops without waiting more than perhaps 4 or 5 minutes (at Marty's). Everywhere else, traffic was moving steadily. We haven't made a lot of trips through Danville, but each time we have gone that way, we haven't been held up very long at all.

The top picture was while we waited a few minutes when leaving Marty's 1st Stop on our way home around noon; then coming up the road into Danville village. I was first in line because I was leaving Marty's - there was a long line behind me. Then we stopped at the bank, and getting out of there took only a few minutes, too.
