People are rallying to help our neighbors who lost so much due to floods lately. I had this message from one of our Joe's Pond neighbors today:

Hi Jane,

Paul and I have a sofa bed, loveseat and potentially a rocking chair to give away. We are at 14 Narrows Drive. Unfortunately, we don’t have a truck to bring the sofas to someone in need. We thought the Barre Salvation Army would need them, but they haven’t called us back after leaving a few messages. Do you think that folks in Cabot might need to replace some of their flooded furniture? The set is faded in color, but very serviceable. Do you have any ideas?

I expect the reason the Barre Salvation Army didn't call back is because they had so much damage to their store. They probably aren't able to cope with anything right now except cleanup and perhaps salvaging what they can at the store.

If you know of anyone who might need furniture, get in touch with the Penars.

We heard this morning that last night's heavy rainfall took out part of Mack's Mountain Road, which had been repaired only recently from the previous flash flood. I guess it's sometimes two steps back for every one step forward. Tough for the folks living on that road, and tough also for the Town of Cabot having to keep repairing these washouts. Costing an awful lot of money, and so far nothing definite in the way of FEMA or other assistance, although it seems likely there will be some help coming.

I talked with Joe Turner at Point Comfort this morning about the auction last week. Joe said only a handful of folks showed up and none of them offered a bid. He said at the last auction, a year ago, over 40 people were there, and two sold. Since then, a third unit was sold. Now there are still four units on the market. We've heard that the folks who bought units last year are very excited about their acquisitions. We're happy for them, too - a couple have already joined the Joe's Pond Association and we're looking forward to meeting them soon.
