We have another coating of fresh snow - I measured just a quarter of an inch on my snow board this morning, but it's enough to cover the driveway and remind us that this is March, and spring cannot be hurried in Vermont. I took this picture of our driveway after we'd been up and down a few times yesterday - an hour or so later the driveway was bare, but it's white again this morning. The thermometer is still only at 28 degrees, but we're looking forward to a real warm up this afternoon.

We aren't looking at a lot of melting yet, but here's a video link I got this morning from Bob Labrie down in Goshen, MA. They have a setup fashioned after ours but on a much smaller lake. Their ice usually goes out a week or two before ours. If this is any indicator, I'd say the 24 inch report we had a couple weeks ago might be a bit off and Bob Noyes' report of 3 feet may be closer. Take a look at the Goshen link: Goshen Melt Down

There are a few things going on this week - on Thursday there's a St. Patrick's Day supper at the Cabot church. Looks like it will be a great meal and a chance to see your neighbors. We'll hope the weather doesn't turn on us, but no matter what the weather, it will be warm and friendly as folks chat over corned beef or beef stew. You'll find more information on that below - I posted it last night.

Then there's the Maple Festival in Cabot on Saturday. That looks like a great time, too. We'll be there with Joe's Pond Ice-Out tickets, but I'm not sure we'll be at the pancake breakfast, although that's tempting.

Fred and I are excited to be going to another basketball game tonight - our granddaughter's team, the 5th and 6th grade girls at Waterford School, are playing in a tournament. We'll be anxious to see how they do. They have been improving with every game this year and we expect they'll do well tonight. I'm not sure yet what team they will be playing.

I'm beginning to hear rumblings of dread about the road work that is scheduled to begin in Danville this summer. People are wondering how it will impact them in traveling on Rte 2, and I'm sure the merchants in Danville are understandably concerned. I'll try to have some definite information for you soon.
