From Barb and Ernie Thurston (Welcome back, Barb and Ernie!):
Hi Fred and Jane,

Barb and I saw 2 loons on pond#2 on the middle pond today. They fished all day. Spring is here!

After Pam Hebert reported seeing one loon a couple days ago, Jamie and Marie Dimick reported seeing two on the middle pond, too, so I guess it's safe to say they are here to stay - not just passing through! Like the birds, our members are coming back, as well. We're glad to know when you arrive, so send a note.

Tom and Camilla Dente aren't quite ready to head north yet. Here's what Tom sent tonight:

Hi Jane,
Big day tomorrow, the Boston Marathon. Son Tom is running his first Boston Marathon and all of us are going to Boston to cheer him on. He is running with a group to support a cure for Multiple Myeloma. This is a cancer of the plasma cell and is an incurable but treatable disease that affects approximately 20,000 new people each year in the United States. In only ten years, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation has become the world's number-one funder of Multiple Myeloma research and raised close to $100 million to fund 70 laboratories worldwide with incredible results. Each runner on the team had to raise $5000.00 toward this cause. It should be a cloudy but fun day.

-Tom-

What a great cause to run for. This is the disease Homer Fitts is battling, so what Tom's son is doing has special meaning for all of us here at Joe's Pond. Thanks for letting us know, Tom.

For those of you following the ice conditions - it has turned very black in the area behind the islands, but there's still plenty left to melt in the rest of the pond. It's supposed to stay fairly cold for the next few days, but there will be some rain late tomorrow that will change things a bit, probably. Chico hasn't reported that Woodbury has gone out yet, so we'll have ice for at least several days more, if his calculations are correct. We'll keep you posted.

Another Adventure

This week turned out to be a doozie for me. I had anticipated going for a follow-up on my knee on Monday, but instead ended up in the ER at ...
