I now have information re. the Danville Town Meeting. According to the report in the Caledonian Record, "Austerity Reigns in Danville." Good news for lots of people here at Joe's Pond. Their school budget increased by less than 1% initially, but with a 2008 surplus, there was an overall tax reduction of $.035. The municipal fund budget showed a savings of $90,633 over last year's. I believe the tax rate will be set later, after correct amounts of all budgets voted are taken into account. It looks as if the voters did a good job of keeping costs down, though.
In other town news - St. Johnsbury voted to go to Australian ballot system.
Kirby flatly turned down that question, so it never came to a vote. They also finished town business in under 90 minutes! Bear in mind there are only 332 names on their checklist and their turnout was about 20%, or in the range of 65 people.
