Good Morning!

I have some results from the Cabot Town Meeting held yesterday. I believe the meeting was very well attended this year. Only 10 of the 26 Articles had been considered by noon, and four of them were by Australian ballot. Moderator Ed Smith let it be known articles on Australian ballot could be discussed, but not voted upon, but there was little discussion. There was a great deal of discussion over constables, however, but nothing really important.

As is often the case, there were corrections to some of the figures in the town report,
and some line items from budgets needed to be explained, and those things took up the morning session. There were no votes on any expenditures during the morning session. All told, it was not a productive morning. I left at noon.

The afternoon session was equally long and
a reliable source told me the meeting didn't adjourn until after 5 p.m. In fact, the general meeting was interrupted and the school portion was voted upon, and then the general meeting resumed. Thus, all the "big ticket" items came at the very end of the day. Some people left early, and some would arrive to vote on the school budget in the afternoon, which is generally the way things go in our town. Things got done, but as usual, not everyone was pleased with the process - or the results.

Here are the results of the Australian ballot issues, courtesy of Bill Walters:
