Not as much snow as we'd feared - so far.

We're in the midst of another snowstorm. There were predictions of about a foot, but so far here at the pond we've only had a few inches. Fred was out with the snow blower to clear a couple of "wheel tracks" up driveways earlier. Roads are pretty good, according to what I'm hearing on the scanner, so things are about normal.

I did some catching up reading my newspapers yesterday, and there are a couple of things I wanted to let you know about.

I mentioned a while back that the Joe's Pond Community Club is wanting to make some improvements to the beach in West Danville. Part of that process will be to remove the bath house. The plan is to remove it, and the Danville Select Board is requesting bids, (due by March 6). There has been one offer made to take it away for no charge. It's made of concrete walls, bolted together so it can be taken apart, and the roof is truss supported with asphalt shingles. The Community Club has money from the Agency of Natural Resources to do landscaping designed to preserve the shoreline, and they also want to erect an open structure that, they hope, would invite less vandalism.

Also of interest - there was another meeting Wednesday night on the Route 2 Project in Danville. As you know, this project has been in the works for ten years or so, and now, because decisions were not made and prices have escalated over the years, the money allotted by the state is not sufficient to cover all the things the project was to embrace. Residents and the Route 2 Local Review Committee need to trim some of their enhancements from the project to keep it within the previously budgeted amount. The state is working on getting rights-of-way for the project and it is scheduled to begin in the spring, but, according to Danville's Town Administrator Mert Leonard, there was some concern that if the town kept balking at changes, the state would just move on to another project.

If there is something in today's paper regarding the Wednesday meeting, I'll post more on this boondoggle later.

In Cabot, we have a new monthly newspaper. The first edition of The Cabot Chronicle came in the mail yesterday. This first sheet is a very informative one, with detailed information about the upcoming contests between R. D. Eno and Tara Rogerson for town clerk, and also between Larry Gochey and John Cookson for a three-year term on the select board. The town clerk's position is a one-year post. I sent them our story of the Ice-Out Contest, there's an events page and community calendar, plus some interesting short stories by local folks. Both Goldie's Restaurant (the only restaurant in Cabot) and the Walden Country Store and Homespun Pizza Pub were featured, plus lots of interesting ads and baits of information. Subscriptions to the new paper are available for $12. There is also an on-line edition - go to
