WE'VE GOT SOME COLOR GOING ON IN THE KINGDOM!
We think the fall color isn't as vivid as usual so far, but we've had such wonderful weather - very pleasant sunny and clear days, cool nights, just enough color to let us know the seasons are changing - and there is sooooo much going on that
our days can be filled with wonderful activities and delicious food if we take time to enjoy it
all.
Fred has been taking pictures - he had to go into St. Johnsbury yesterday to pick up Woody's special cat food at the vet's, and he took pictures along the way. You'll recognize West Danville from Route 2 by Injun Joe's Cabins and Point Comfort. That hill is always beautiful. Also, you'll recognize Burke Mountain, taken from Rt. 2. He went onto Rt. 2B looking for more color and found flagman James Hunt who lives in Sheffield, happy to chat while waiting for traffic to move. Jame

Back on West Shore Road, where some folks say the color is the best around, he found our neighbors, Don and Mary Encarnacion apparently doing some serious gardening. Turned out they were fixing a drainage problem around their
house with the help of another neighbor, plumber John Hammer and his apprentice.
Of course you know that on Tuesday I was busy all day playing "tour guide" for Cabot's Fall Foliage Day. We had good crowds and both my morning and afternoon tours
were great groups of interesting folks. One gal from San Diego, California, had been in real estate and told me she now is changing careers to expand her hobby of photography and plans to move to Mexico. I guess we won't see her here again next year . . . I had other guests from the Carolinas, Kansas, a few Vermonters, and a woman from Germany. The picture is at the Green Mountain Power Plant on Rt. 215. There was a nice mix of people interested in not only seeing the foliage (for the most part on Tuesday, the green of Vermont), they also wanted to know about life in a rural area such as this. One of the questions was, "What do you do here in the winter?" They seemed a little surprised that life goes on in Vermont about like anywhere else except we dress warmer and check the weather forecasts more carefully. Of course, I threw in skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling along with the church suppers, concerts, plays and trips to Wal-Mart and the grocery store as part of our entertainment - so I think they got the idea. I told them a while back some fellas at Joe's Pond came up with a great cure for cabin fever, the Joe's Pond Ice-Out Contest - that's when I gave each one an Ice-Out ticket. They were an attentive group, and I think they believed every word I told them!
