You may not know this because lots of times these things don't get into the news, but several homes in the Cabot area have been burglarized this winter. Diane and I were in the town offices last week and Constable Ken Gokey was telling of three break-ins over the weekend. A few weeks ago Pat diStefano told me she has been broken into twice, both times during storms and when she was not at home. The lovely Victorian home of Jane and Ferguson McKay right on Main Street in Cabot was broken into during the Valentine's Day storm. The blowing snow covers any tracks and makes it very difficult to trace the culprits.

While I haven't heard of any break-ins at the pond this winter, there may have been some, and we all know that it has happened in the past. With more people staying here year around, it makes it a bit more difficult for the burglers, but I would caution everyone to have someone check your place frequently if you are away for any length of time, and be sure to lock your doors securely any time you leave
. Actually, it's a good idea to keep your doors locked anyway. How many times have you been busy in another part of the house and walked into the kitchen to find someone standing there? It's happened, and while it's generally someone we know and trust, it's always better to know who's at your door BEFORE they enter your home. Here's a site that has some good ideas, wherever you live. www.wikihow.com/Answer-the-Door-Safely

I had this message from Homer Fitts a few days ago. I know some of you have already rec'd it directly by e-mail from him, but for those who aren't in his address book, here it is:

Here I am still in Bradenton , Florida with Sister Barbara at her son's condo. Ed arrived last night and will be taking Barbara back to Vermont this weekend. She really has had a great seven weeks away from Vermont. However the past couple weeks have not been the best with her cancer problems etc. We spent 6 hous at the Lakewood Ranch Hospital's emergency room. Ended up getting two prescriptions for Barbara. That was mainly for bladder inflamation. We have enjoyed playing a lot of card games. Also have seen our brothers Wendell and Stanley and their wives often.
Please do not send any forwards on E-Mail. Today had over 300 messages and mostly all to be deleted. I am on Eddie's computer which he brought down with him. Do not have one here. Am sorry I can not keep you up to date,
I will be going to Barre Day on the 7th at Nokomis Beach. At present I do plan to be back at Joe's Pond about April 1st. ? ? ? Nothing definite as of now.
I hope you all are happy and healthy and enjoying whatever.
With Love to All,
Homer and Barbara too
Thankyou to all who have written notes. Receiving mail has been great !
