If you don't already have your tickets for the Ham & Mac & Cheese Dinner on June 21 (a week from this Saturday!!) better contact either Paige or Peter Crosby right away. There are still a few spaces left, but this is a popular dinner - Marion is famous for her delicious Macaroni and Cheese (I think it is her mother's recipe and really is special). This dinner is the first of the summer '25 season and with so much going on between cool, wet weather, road construction along Route 2, and fighting milfoil in our lovely lake, everyone should take some time to relax and chat with friends and neighbors over some traditional Vermont comfort food! Cocktail hour at about 5, dinner around 6 p.m. - at the JPA Pavilion. Bring your own beverage and perhaps an appetizer to share. Whatever the weather, JPA dinners are always a good time, so gather your family or some friends and get your tickets before it's too late! Call Peter at 802-531-4949 or Paige at 802-274-4772 to make your reservations.
I had my eye shots today, and wouldn't you know this would be the first full really sunny day we've had for a while and I'm housebound recovering from the shots. The combination of my eyes being dilated and then doused with super strong antiseptic before and after the shots results in a period of discomfort when the anesthesia wears off about an hour after the shots. That usually lasts a couple of hours, at least. My eyes settled down soon after lunch and stopped streaming enough for me to work at my computer. I would really rather be outside, but the sun is not my friend today!
Jamie takes me to my eye appointments, and this morning my appointment was at 8 a.m. We allowed plenty of time for the anticipated holdups along Route 2 in Cabot and Marshfield, but then we found a serious traffic backup ust outside of Montpelier. Traffic was held up all the way from the rotary back almost to East Montpelier, I bet. We were in the middle of it and it took about 20 minutes for us to get from where the auto agencies are through the rotary and onto Rt. 302. I was about 20 minutes late, but it all worked out ok and we were home before 10. I wonder if that traffic is normal on weekday mornings or if there was something else going on. When we finally got to the rotary, everything seemed to be working smoothly and there was no indication of an accident or anything, but something had certainly stalled things earlier. Unfortunately, there's no alternative route to get to Berlin.
We came home through Cabot Village to avoid the holdup on Route 2, and that was a good decision. The road from the village over the Plain has been worked and is very good now - no waiting in traffic there!
Give Peter or Paige a call and get your tickets for the dinner!
