News Snippits

The sun is out right now, but so far today has been more like November gloom than October bright. It seems to be here for perhaps the remainder of the day, and tomorrow and maybe Friday may have more sunshine, and I look forward to that.

I have a couple of things I want to share today. First, Alba Rossi celebrated her 107th birthday yesterday. As many of you know, Alba was a long-time Joe's Pond summer resident, and her late son, Bill and wife Diane made Joe's Pond their year around home several years ago. Alba lives at Woodridge Rehab and Nursing in Berlin now. Diane said she and Bill's brother and his wife, Nancy took Alba out for lunch to get her favorite meal, a McDonald's 'burger. Diane shared these photos. She sure looks great, and really happy!

The next item I want to share is that we are still waiting for word from ANR about their decision on new rulings for wake boats on Vermont lakes and ponds. The Responsible Wakes folks sent out an update, but in brief, it mostly says that ANR hasn't made a decision. The public hearings ended in August, but Responsible Wakes urges anyone interested in having the 500 ft. from shore rule changed to 1000 ft. should continue to send letters. Here is a LINK to that information.

I'll leave on a really upbeat note - if you haven't been to the Headwaters Restaurant & Pub in Cabot, you should go! A friend and I went for drinks on the deck a few weeks ago and that was really nice; now it's a bit chilly for that, but I've been there for dinner a couple of times since and the food is great. There isn't an extensive menu, but so far, anything I've had has been excellent. The thing is, you need to get your reservation in well ahead. They are busy! Their dining area is relatively small, but there is the bar and a comfortable lounge area where you can have a drink while you wait for your table. They are open Thursday - Sunday, 5 p.m. to closing. Do make a reservation, though. You'll find their menu and contact info on-line, or check their Facebook page.
