Sometimes things that I write about here take on a life of their own, and that has happened to the mention of Fourth of July drone shows. I've had several verbal comments and at least one that came right away and is posted on Tuesday's entry - and here is an email I got yesterday, printed here with permission:
Good morning Jane,
Thinking outside of the box, so to speak, drone fireworks could offer a
fascinating more sustainable option to the current challenges of cost,
location, safety, noise and environment of traditional explosive
fireworks. Imagine a large United States flag hovering above Joe’s Pond
for all to see. Can be as elaborate as one cares to pay. Perhaps we even
have a local tech possessing knowledge to orchestrate it…Just sayin’!

I appreciate the input and interest so many people have shown - it could be an option, I think, but someone suggested that a drone show might make the price of a traditional fireworks show look like pocket change. That said, as competition grows, the prices are probably going to go down. I know there are people with drones who do professional photography, mapping, etc., but it takes a whole fleet of those little guys and sophisticated technology (and expertise) to do an effective drone show, and demand here in Vermont may not warrant many getting into that kind of business -- yet. So I went looking for more information and found this short video that appeared on WCAX. Apparently it could be an option, and even though in the video it was mentioned that the show lasts 12-15 minutes, that isn't that much different than our past fireworks shows. And I'm sure there would still be plenty of traditional fireworks set off privately to satisfy (and irritate) - something for everyone!
The weather has been hot and humid. Tuesday, the Fourth of July Parade in Cabot was barely finished when the heavens opened up and rain poured down on us. Yesterday was hot and very humid - but there was sunshine. Today, more of the same, only hotter and soggier. Tonight I'm feeling the heat even here in the house - but now that the sun is down, I'll open things up and it will cool down fast. Tomorrow should be cooler, but probably still muggy. I'm glad I don't have to work outside in weather like this.
Middle son Bob and I had lunch at the Village Restaurant in Hardwick today - and that is always a pleasure. It was hot, so we didn't do our usual "road trip" on back roads neither of us are very familiar with or that we haven't been on for a long time. It wasn't the sort of day you want to chance getting lost and having to back-track down an unimproved mountain road nobody uses more than a few times a year. Normally that's an adventure, but in this heat, no thanks.
Stay safe, enjoy the pond or whatever you are comfortable doing to keep cool; and don't forget that Saturday night is the very popular Italian Dinner. I haven't heard if there are still tickets, but you can check with Jeremy and Lori Grenier at 802-505-0032. It's always a fun gathering, and great food!
