HIGH WATER AT JOE'S POND

Joe's Pond Association President Joe Hebert is asking that property owners around the pond prepare for high water by tying your boats securely, etc. Here is the message he received from Kristin Carlson at Green Mountain Power Corporation:

Hi Joe,

I hope all is well. I had you listed as the President of Joe's pond, and with the high water, wanted to let you know we’ve been preparing for days leading up to this storm, with teams positioned throughout the state. Forecasters think it will be tomorrow night or Wednesday morning before all the storm impacts are known.  We also have people at our hydro facilities to manage pond levels as we prepare for more water. We are monitoring all conditions closely from our control centers as well.

As you have seen, the storm is causing road closures and pole washouts that are driving isolated outages, and your area likely has high water.

Governor Scott has declared a state of emergency and the state is giving this advice:

- If rising water is approaching, leave

- Never drive or walk through floodwaters

- Check 511 for road conditions and closures

- Listen to emergency responders

Stay safe!

Best,

Kristin

It is unlikely anyone here at Joe's Pond will need to leave their home, but we can expect the water level to continue rising at least into tomorrow, and possibly beyond, depending on how much more rain we get. When there is this much runoff into the pond, the dam is opened as wide as it can be, but it cannot keep up with all the water flowing into the pond from the hillsides. Watch the local weather reports for the latest information on road closings and danger spots. Stay safe.
