Change of Plans

From Activities Director Susan Bouchard:  It has been decided to cancel the Brooks Henry Band which was scheduled to play on Larry Rossi’s lawn this Saturday afternoon [July 15, 2023] due to the chaos from the past couple of days. At this point, there is no plan to reschedule and Jeremy will revisit this for next year.

***************

With the water level still high and more rain expected, any wave action along the shoreline could cause still more damage, so the fewer boats on the water creating waves right now, the better. We hope there will not be the possible 2 inches more rainfall that is predicted, however we all know it could be even more. Weather forecasting these days is pretty difficult and unreliable. There is a possibility of strong winds, and that will mean trees and utility poles in already-super-saturated ground are likely going to topple so we should expect power outages. Have a reserve of fresh water for cooking/drinking, just in case. It's always better to be over-prepared than it is to be caught without basic needs and possibly needing to stay in place because downed trees or washouts prevent traveling.

I heard from Louis Monaghan on Clubhouse Circle that the owner of the two kayaks has contact him. Things are getting sorted out and back to their rightful owners.

Our town road and emergency crews have more than they can handle right now trying to recover from the severe damage done earlier in the week. Trucks are going by my house making numerous trips  every day hauling gravel to repair washouts. I know everyone is anxious to get in your daily walks with youngsters and dogs in tow, but please be very aware that those heavy trucks will be coming and going, so walk facing traffic and stay well to the side of the road to let them pass safely. Road crews are working long hours to get our roads passable again - give them room. Road shoulders are soft, so they need to be careful, and so do you. Get well out of the traveled path and maybe give them an appreciative wave as they go by.

To give you an idea of the amount of water that is flowing down Joe's Brook from the pond, here is a short video by Nate Somers of KATV. And another view: Water Rushing

Here's a thought: Because of the very swift current coming out of the first pond, please do not go to the town docks. Even past the beach there will be a stronger than normal current, and if you should lose power, you are going to go over the dam. You might have 30 seconds to get your motor started or throw out an anchor, but even that might not be enough to save you in that current. So best to stay away from that area for the time being. There is a safety line across the water some distance from the dam, but that was not enough to prevent that fiberglass boat or the pontoon boat from going over the falls Monday night. The falls are steep and there are jagged rocks below - not a soft landing. Please be careful.
