Ice Accident at Joe's Pond

This afternoon there was a lot of excitement here at Joe's Pond. I don't have details, but I did some sleuthing after emergency vehicles were seen on West Shore Road, and finally found a short article in the online Caledonian Record saying that Ray Walker had rescued his husband, Tito Hernandez and their dog after they went through the ice. They have a cottage on Channel Drive.

Neighbors are always concerned when they see emergency vehicles on our roads - and I had several contact me in case I had information. I heard on the scanner that one person was transported to NVRH - probably as a precaution, as the brief account in the paper didn't mention that. We are all glad the dog and the two men are ok.

Some of us have worried when we have seen people out on the ice in recent days. Please warn anyone visiting at the pond or members of your family if you live close by - really no ice is safe ice, and especially this time of year and in the spring. We haven't had the deep cold this year to keep the ice thick - that will no doubt come later; but for now don't go onto the ice, and a word of caution - it's best not to let your pets roam free where they may get into trouble, too. I happens more often than we realize, and we don't want anything bad to happen to our neighbors or their pets.
