Picklefest Participants Pick up Prize Pickles

On a beautiful Saturday (August 13) the JPA held the annual Pickleball Tournament; a fundraiser event for the upkeep of the tennis courts.  Twenty-five people played in the fun filled tournament organized by Tom Segale, assisted by Louis Cassani, Pam Hebert and Joanne Stewart.  The randomly chosen teams played for 15 minutes on the four courts, or until a score of 11 was reached.  Each player reported their score and after four games, the person with the most score won the prize.  The prize was a jar of Paige Crosby's home-made pickles.  The winners of the tournament were:

Evan Burns - men's highest scorer
Danielle Stevens - women's highest scorer
Bob MacLeod - men's second highest scorer
Robin Nicholson - women's second highest scorer

As a final event, Evan Burns and Danielle Stevens played against Bob MacLeod and Robin Nicholson in an exhibition match.  Evan and Danielle took the honors.

To date, $1500 has been raised by the players in this fundraising tournament.

Chris and Scott Burns won the doubles tourney on Sunday, with six teams participating.

Looks like a fun group, and they certainly did a good job raising money for the tennis/pickleball court maintenance. Congratulations, Picklefest Participants!

We are getting some much needed rain today. I measured only about half an inch this morning, but it was such a light, steady rain that really soaked into the earth and did some good. I thought we were getting some heavy downpours with this batch of showers, but if we did, I wasn't aware of it last night. Perhaps they are ahead of us.

Isn't it amazing that things seem to all happen at once? Sometimes I go several days without actually seeing anyone in person - although that doesn't happen often! Recently I have been working on a writing project, so I appreciated the quiet. However, I finished that this weekend and Monday I made some calls to schedule appointments like an oil tank inspection and pumping the septic tank. At the time, nothing definite was set up - then yesterday I got calls that both would be here today! Great! I'll get that stuff out of the way all in a bunch!

I may spend some of the day investigating WordPress to see if it's something I can master in order to transfer my blog to a more functional site than Google's blogger.com. It was super easy to set up my blog with Google, but over time, they have made changes that have eaten away at how it presents and this last change, removing the subscriber option, is just another irritation I don't want. WordPress will be a learning curve, but it may be worth the effort. I know Fred knew it and used it for some applications, and he had several books or manuals for reference and learning all that kind of stuff, which I gave  away thinking I'd never use it. Probably there have been many updates since those were published, so it may be better to just get new or take online courses.

I just noticed there's a little umbrella icon and "Rain coming" showing up on my desktop. It looks brighter out there at the moment and I was thinking perhaps the rain is over. I checked the weather channel radar map for this area and it looks like Danville and St. Johnsbury may get more rain, but here at Joe's Pond and further west, there won't be much going on. It's interesting that this weather pattern was moving east to west instead of vice versa. However, this storm seems to stop right about at Danville until noon-ish, and then after one last brief shower over Joe's Pond, it will move NNE and be out of here. We'll see how that works out! Enjoy the rain if we get it! We need it!!!
