Here are the slightly delayed Sunfish Race results (sorry, I was moving very slowly yesterday and didn't get to my computer until late last night). Susan Bouchard sent the following:
Winds were slightly variable but for the most part were steady.
Twelve boats joined the fun for the 2nd race of the season. Below are
the following results:

It is still hot and muggy, but after the showers last night (small thunderstorm early morning hours) I measured .63 in. of precipitation this morning, and while that is enough to lay the dust, it isn't really enough to replenish the water table, I expect. Every little bit helps, but we could use a nice, steady rain for a day or so that would be gentle and gradual enough to soak in and not just run off the surface into streams. Everything looks washed off and vibrant this morning. But the air is heavy and the sun is beginning to break through, so it could get steamy.
Gretchen Farnsworth reports that our little loon chicks "aren't so little" anymore. The two chicks - one in the middle pond and/or first pond and the other in the third pond - are growing nicely and have lost their downy baby feathers. They are growing some fine, strong flying feathers, and Gretchen said the chicks are diving and apparently feeding under water, but the adults are still giving them food. Mothers are like that! The new generation will be fit and ready to migrate when fall comes. We are very fortunate that both our loon families were successful this year and each pair has a fine youngster coming along. We hope they are over the most hazardous period and will continue to thrive.
Thanks to Gretchen for keeping us posted. She and Jim contributed our loon count to the recent state Loon Watch on Saturday.
I just realized - I never had breakfast! So I grabbed a banana and now I guess I'll wait until lunch to eat more. I'm normally not awfully hungry in the morning, and it's easy to forget to eat once I get busy on the computer or some other project. And I still have mail to answer . . . !
Have a safe, productive day!
