New Activity at JPA

New Activity at Joe’s Pond Pavilion

Mark Collins would like to lead a class  -  Karate 101 -  introduction into Japanese Karate as taught by the Japanese Karate Association (JKA). Mark started with JKA in 1972 and is a founding member of the original UCONN Karate Club. He is a nidan (2nd degree belt). He founded and taught a 3 day/week karate class at his employment United Technologies Company (Hamilton Standard) for 25 years free of charge for the employees.

His class will consist of:
  1. Pre and post class stretching
  2. Instruction of the basics Karate stances/blocks/punches and kicks
  3. Karate kata
  4. In class Karate etiquette

The class will be free of charge and he plans to meet outside of the JPA pavilion at 10am. Mark suggests wearing loose clothes (shorts/sweats or similar) for the class. First class is scheduled to start on Tuesday, July 19th.  Anyone who is interested in participating or have questions, please contact Mark Collins at 860-916-4086 or mark30rem@icloud.com

 One More Item!

This is a reminder to make your reservations for the JPA Annual Roast Pork dinner on July 30 soon – this sounds like a dinner you won’t want to miss! Bo Keach and Mary Anne Cassani are excited about the new roaster they found -  he promises plenty of food, expertly cooked (an all-day process!) with home-made sides of Baked Beans, and Coleslaw. You can make your own sliders with two famous BBQ sauces and there will be corn-on-the-cob, of course. Top it all off with delicious Boston Cream Pie, PLUS there will be eclairs! The chef promises nobody will go away hungry.

Recently some people decided to bring appetizers for their individual table, hoping to cut down on the possible transmission of Covid. Bo and Mary Ann totally agree with this choice but said appetizers for everyone to share will still be available. They just want guests to know about the other option.

Take outs will also be available, and if you plan to do that, please call ahead to either Bo Keach, 802-684-3673; or Mary Anne Cassani, 802-684-2195. Take out dinners will be ready for pickup at 6:45 p.m.

The roaster will begin setting up on Saturday morning around 8:30 and welcomes anyone who wishes to stop by and watch the process! He will be there, overseeing every detail, all day. Bo and Mary Anne are excited about this new roaster and hope everyone comes on the 30th to enjoy a great meal and social evening. Oh, yes, I should mention – tickets are $20. See you there!
