I can't tell you that this is a beautiful spring day - we are white with snow. It's pretty discouraging, and I'm not even going to post a picture. You all know what it looks like.
I also can't tell you that the block has slipped through the ice and there is a happy winner of the Ice-Out Contest. As far as I know, the block, with flag tipped over and probably under a couple inches of snow by now, are both intact, on top of who knows how many inches of ice.
I have been listening for frogs, but no self-respecting frog would start singing about anything in this weather. I just spoke with Bill, in Waterford, and he said they are getting rain and snow showers there. So were we for about half a minute around 8:30 this morning. By the time I went out at 9 to measure precipitation, the grass and trees were covered and there was only slush on my snowboard - nothing I could measure. The snow wasn't sticking to flat, warmer surfaces. But it is beginning to mount up now, and at 36 degrees, we probably won't have enough to shovel, but there is enough to make it seem more like Thanksgiving or Christmas than Easter. Although, when you think about it, this is fairly typical weather for Easter in the northern section of Vermont. Sunrise services tomorrow may be held inside - Cabot Plains Cemetery is not very inviting if this kind of weather keeps up. So far there hasn't been a lot of wind, although the wind blew hard late yesterday afternoon. Today, it's just snow, showering down on us relentlessly.
The family is coming for dinner in another hour or so, so I need to do some prep work and be ready when they get here. We are having an early Easter because some of them are either working or have other things to do tomorrow. The muddy roads and this kind of weather is the reason I gave up inviting guests for Easter years ago. So now I'm wondering why I though it would be a good idea to try it again! It will be fun to have everyone here; I just hope they come prepared for winter.
