Today's work doesn't show up much in the photo, but a lot was accomplished. Randy is now working by himself since his helper quit; so I helped a few times holding things in place, directing light for reading the tape measure in the dark corner. He was able to cut out the wall and everything is lining up perfectly. Once the wall was opened up (see photo on the left), Lyle Gadapee came to do the wiring. I now have a wall switch and a hookup for a light over the door (the
original plan was for a light on either side of the door, but that was going to be a tricky endeavor, and I'll find a different kind of light for overhead. It will work just as well, I'm sure. Who needs a lot of light on a nice screened porch anyway? If I'm out there at night, I'm pretty sure I won't be reading a newspaper. I'll figure it out.
I really enjoyed seeing what it will be like to have that wall opened up. It will lighten up that dark corner in the dining area. And the air will circulate straight through the house if I have the kitchen door open. Tonight, the hole in the wall is securely block and tomorrow the door will be set in place. Randy has a helper lined up to give him a hand with that. It's definitely a two-man job getting the heavy glass panels in place.
It has been hot today. The house stayed pretty cool until mid-afternoon, then it got pretty warm and sticky. Now that the sun has gone down, it's cooling down nicely, and I'm about ready to get some supper together. As interesting as it is to watch the work in progress each day, I'm always glad when the last truck is heading down the driveway and the house is quiet again. Mostly I retreat to my office while all of this is going on. Today, Lyle inadvertently cut power to my office, so my computer went down unexpectedly. That is always scary, especially when I'm in the middle of working on it. Today I was selecting photos for the slide show that Jamie and the KATV crew will put together commemorating the 100th year Joe's Pond Association has been in existence. I have literally hundreds of photos, but we are still h oping people will bring some of their personal shots of days at Joe's Pond - way back when is great, but recent shots may also be of interest. Pam Hebert brought some today for me to scan, and that is good. I'm sure most people have already seen a lot of the photos I have - either on the blog or on the website at one time or another. Deadline to get photos in is August 14th in order to give them time to put the slideshow together. If you don't get to see it at the cocktail party or at the final meeting, I believe the plan is to have it available on the Joe's Pond website. I'll keep you posted.
