This message came from Tom Segale this morning:
Hey all.
We have a major announcement. We have a new name for the fundraiser.
“2021 JP Picklefest Fundraiser”. The committee thought this was a more accurate name for the event.
ON SAT. PLEASE ARRIVE BY 10:00AM TO GET YOUR NUMBER SO LOUIE DOESNT YELL AT ME THS YEAR:) We’ll
start playing at 10:30 on Saturday. We are also asking for a voluntary
$50 donation again to help maintain the courts/nets. Please arrive
around 10:10 to check in with Louie and warm up. This
year we ask that you email me if you are playing so its not so crazy
for Louie and Pam to get the games organized. ****. Please let me know
by Thurs the 12th.
Random
teams and opponents will be selected as was the case last year but you
are welcome to change teammates if the teams seem lopsided.
We
have 23 players to this point which is exciting. Please check the list
below and make sure your name is there. Please let anyone else you know
who is interested to email me by Friday. We will do similar rules as
we did last year. Maybe even with a few twists added as well:)
******ALSO ANNOUNCING A NEW COMPETITIVE TOURNEY THE FOLLOWING DAY AT 10:30AM****
Yes,
you heard correctly. We’re going to have a competitive tourney on
Sunday. If you are interested, find a partner and come join in the
historic 1st competitive tourney at JP! I was thinking mixed doubles
tourney but if you can’t find a mixed partner then thats fine as well.
Depending on how many teams there are we will all play each other once
and the top 4 teams move on to the semis then final!
If you would like to play then email me your team. More details to come:)

We enjoyed the Pig Roast Dinner Saturday. Lots of people there we didn't know - and it was very nice to meet some of them. One of those was Leslie Smith, who was on the U. S. Winter Olympics team in 1976. Who knew we have a former Olympian here at Joe's Pond? Leslie was introduced to me by her significant other, Richard Hackett. I knew Richard's parents, Bob and Lois Hackett from years ago, and have had contact with Richard from time to time, but I did not know about Leslie. She is a charming lady and I was delighted to meet her.
As expected, the food was very good and we had a very nice time. There was a hard rain storm, and Jaff Baxter rushed home with his open Jeep, holding an umbrella in one hand as he sped out of the parking lot. The rain came down in buckets for a few minutes - but he made it home and came back with his car. Peace, his wife, was celebrating her birthday, and it was appropriate that there was cake for dessert!
It was also very nice to see two long-time friends, Ginny Johnson, and Dolly LaGue. Both are in their 90s by enjoying a party as much as ever.
We were given the sad news that Joanne Stewart's mom, Sophie, had passed away. Sophie had spent a lot of time at Joe's Pond over the years, and was a familiar figure at our events. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her here, and especially by her family. My thoughts are with them.
My porch project seems to be at a standstill today. Kurt (I found out he spells it with a "K" not a "C") came to pick up some tools that he had left here and told me Randee is sick today. It happens - even to strong men! I have reached out to Floyd at Walden Plumbing & Heating, but had to leave a message, so I don't know if he will be here to hook up my heating element or not. That really isn't important right now, but he needed to get it disconnected and out of the way so the door could be put in, presumably today. It will all work out, I'm sure. In the meantime, I have already enjoyed sitting out there and being able to have the window (that will eventually be a door!) open during the big rainstorm without worrying. Most of my windows are awning type, but this one cranks out and is not good to have open during a rain storm. I'll be trying to dispose of that window - it is a very nice one and has a fitted thermal shade with it. It should make someone a good replacement window - about 45" x 36" with two crank-out panels. I hope to find someone who will want it. I think it is and Anderson window, but I'd have to check to be sure.
Have a good day, everyone. Stay safe and healthy.
