I had a response to the article that Carmen Gagne posted a couple of days ago:

Jane,
I like what Carmen sent out.  I have been concerned about my beach for a couple of years. I have mentioned it to several but it seems to be falling on deaf ears… I have seen a big change in the beaches that I have, and worry about those that have retaining walls.
I hope the board will do something about this.  We could limit the number. Not let any more on the lake..But do something…
Thank you Carmen.  I hope others will put pressure on.

I have to agree with Marty and that article. I know that our boats that are tied up in the boathouse have been tossed about dangerously by those huge wakes, and waves have even come over the stern of the pontoon boat at our dock. Shorelines take a terrible beating. Natural storms we can't do much about, but even a really bad storm doesn't churn up the water into waves  like ocean breakers that those monster boats cause. I'm sure it's great sport to ride the wake, but that is better done on a larger body of water than we have here. Even staying in the middle of the pond doesn't mitigate the effect on this small pond.

I think most boat owners understand their responsibility to protect the property of others and the ecology of the lake or pond they are using, and once they realize what havoc the wakes from their boats cause on small bodies of water, they will let their powerful boats plane on Joe's Pond and save the wake mode for Champlain where they can be far enough from shore so the wake will have dissipated as it reaches land. Perhaps JPA could at least contact the owners of these boats and ask that they use better judgement.

I heard that the slide show at the cocktail party was a big hit. If you weren't at the party, it will be set up again at the final meeting this coming Saturday.

We're hoping the rain holds off so the final Sunfish Race can be held this afternoon. It looks mildly threatening now, with lots of clouds overhead and no sunshine. The air is heavy so we might not have much wind for sailing - or it could change abruptly. Winds are tricky. I think it will be an interesting race.

It was a hugely busy day here on Friday. They finished the steps on the porch, and Bill Jones finished the new doors on my garage. Lloyd got my heating element hooked back up, and now I'm waiting only for Lyle to come to install one more outlet for me and Randy and Arnie will put the finishing touches on the inside where the slider went in. Everything is getting spiffed up and in a few days I won't have much going on. I expect the screens to come perhaps this week, but I haven't heard. That will take a while to put them all in place, but then the job will be complete and I can concentrate on furniture and finding my favorite spot for sitting and meditating.

Middle son, Bob, brought lunch from Papa Tarizo's Pizza on Friday. We had meatball subs, and they were excellent. Huge rolls, but so good! I had to save half of mine for another meal, but Bob ate all of his - he always has had a very good appetite. We had a great time sitting on the deck (the porch was too busy with workers pounding and sawing), and at one point There was an assortment of at least eight cars and trucks scattered around the place. Susan Bouchard came by to pick up an article for the silent auction and had to back down the driveway when she left because there was no place to turn around. Someone else came by to talk with Randy or Arnie and she left her vehicle down by the mailbox and walked up. In all of that, Ben brought his bulldozer and big excavator in to start the pond.

There is no shortage of activity here on week days; weekends are when I can actually do
some catching up on my own work. I spent a lot of time Friday running around hunting for stuff (they were short a small piece of decking for the steps) and making phone calls. Bill Jones used the same sort of decking on the deck a few years ago and I knew he'd remember is we had some left over. He did, and was able to locate where he and Fred had stashed it. So all is good now, I'm catching up on emails and housework today, getting ready for another busy day tomorrow, weather permitting. Randy has to finish the railing on the steps and the inside trim around the door, and then we wait for the screens. All part of the process.
