I just learned that former Joe's Ponder, Pat Gardner passed away on Monday. Pat and Maurice "Mo" Gardner had a cottage on West Shore Road for many years and lived in Jupiter, Florida. After Mo died, Pat sold the cottage, but still maintained friendships here at the pond. Her obituary has not been posted, but as soon as I have it, I will post it here.
I also heard that Henry LaGue passed away. Henry and John Lague (Jack's father) were brothers and together they were involved in the early development of what is now Sandy Beach Road.
Our sincere condolences to both the Gardner and the LaGue families.
Today has been another beautiful day, just right for working outside or enjoying just being outside. Tonight is going to be on the chilly side with temperatures sliding down into the 40s. The last forecast I heard (at noon) was that some areas in the Northeast Kingdom might get down to the 30s. Not what we want to hear, but there was no frost warning, fortunately! Still, that's pretty darned chilly for the end of June! Then we warm up into the 80s again. These wild temperature swings are something we have to get used to, I guess. Our climate is changing over time, and these erratic temperatures are evidence of that.
Don't forget that the first sailboat race is this coming Sunday. If you don't have a boat but want to sail, or if you have a Sunfish that you no longer use, get in touch with Susan Bouchard so she can possibly match sailors with boats. The races are great fun - competitive, yes, but mostly just folks out there taking advantage of having this beautiful pond to play in and on. If you go out in your boat to watch the race, please be careful to stay out of the way of the sailboats. You don't want to be responsible for an accident. It looks like it will be a very nice weekend, so get out there and enjoy it. Summer season is short, so make the most of it!
