Cabot lost a treasure earlier this month. Charles "Charlie" Bothfeld died on April 3, at the age of 101. When Charlie and his wife, Norma retired in 1973, they picked a spot near West Hill Pond in Cabot, not far from the family homestead, Dunstale Farm. Charlie was part of a close-knit family and also had many friends. The town will miss Charlie, his good nature, quick wit and friendly smile. For his family, the loss will never quite heal. There will be many reminders like his garden now idle, perhaps a chair he was caning not quite finished, a favorite saying that springs to mind, an empty seat at the table. He was a treasure, and he will be deeply missed.

Along with sad news, there is always something to remind us of what we have to be thankful for. I opened my email this morning and found these lovely photos taken by my friend Mary Whitcomb, in Randolph. This is last night's sunset at the Whales Tales. Mary wrote:

"The current circumstances in our lives reminds us to show gratitude for all the good things we have. Like the pretty sky in last night's sunset."

Get outside if you can and enjoy the nice weather.

There is a petition circulating to try to save the Vermont State Colleges. The plan is to close colleges at Johnson, Lyndon and consolidate Randolph's Vermont Technical with the facility at Williston. Losing these institutions will be devastating on the communities they are located in. It is hard to imagine the St. Johnsbury/Lyndonville area without the college, and I'm sure the other communities feel the same way. If you are interested, here is a LINK to the petition.

Stay healthy and be happy. The sun is shining!
