This neat photo came from Karen Cobb this afternoon with a wish for a Happy St. Patrick's Day to Joe's Ponders. Check out the green kerchief! An Irish Laddie if I ever saw one!
A few days ago we learned that Louis Cassani's mother, Norma, who was 95, passed away at Woodbridge Nursing Home on March 5. Arrangements are pending, but for those of you who may wish to send a note or card to the family, you can direct it to Louis Cassani, P. O. Box 36, West Danville VT 05873. Louis spoke with me today and said there will be an obituary later on, but with travel restrictions and today's limitations on gatherings, no service is planned for the near future.
We are sorry to learn of Mrs. Cassani's passing. She and her husband, Anthony, had a cottage on what is now Sandy Beach Road when only a couple other cottages were there. It was where Sam and Judy Lewis built their home, now owned by James and Gretchen Farnsworth. Our sincere condolences to the Cassani family.
Louis also told me that he went out onto the ice and used his ice-fishing auger to drill to find out how thick the ice is. He said he was about 200 yards from the shore between his house and where the Ice-Out flag is at Diane Rossi's. He cut through seven or eight inches of frozen slush left from the warm days we'd had a week or so ago and then hit hard ice that was about twenty-two inches thick. So there you have it - a good indicator that there is plenty of ice left to melt. Even with the predicted warmup coming on Friday, we won't have to worry about the flag going down before April 1st, I'm thinking.
