Well, this has been an unusual day! It was still cold - Fred had a dental appointment and at first I wasn't going to go, but then I decided it would be more efficient if I went and did what errands we had while he was at his appointment and that would get us back shortly after noon. We left here at about 10:30 and the temperature was a cool 15 above. Got to St. Johnsbury and it was only 4 above!!! That was at the recycling depot that is in sort of a valley surrounded by woods and has a river close by, so nothing but garbage heat to warm things up. Downtown was about the same, although I think it was up to 7 above by the time we were leaving a couple hours later.
After lunch, and watching a little of the impeachment stuff, I came into my office thinking I'd have a whole quiet afternoon to work. All went perfectly at first, I got my email and then began writing. I always have three or more files open at once and sometimes one or more on-line sites I'm using for reference. That normally works fine, but this afternoon there were some stutters on line and finally I couldn't get anywhere on line. We had lost our internet. About the same time I started for the living room where Fred was working on his computer, he was heading into my office to see if I had internet. Usually it's a matter of re-booting, but nothing worked. Fred went to call and found we had no phone service. He got through to Charter on the cell phone. They said they'd look into it.
Long story short, we were without internet for a good part of the afternoon. Normally, that wouldn't bother me much at all, but today I really needed to check a lot of stuff - dates, events, and verify one thing or another. So I made notes, highlighted where I needed to come back and fill in information or write proper reference notes when we got service back. It really surprised me how dependent I've become on the internet for these things. I usually look at more than one source because sometimes on-line information is skewed, depending on who wrote it. Sure, I have dictionaries and any number of reference books, but the web is so much easier! And normally quicker. Fortunately, we later found out Charter knew there was an outage in our area and they were working on it. By late afternoon we were back on line. I can't imagine how we ever got along without the internet
Here are a couple of pictures my friend, Mary Whitcomb took over in the Randolph, Vermont area. This barn has a very interesting mural painted on it - Mary got a closeup. Isn't that just the neatest thing? She sent me more very nice shots that she took on a road trip yesterday. I'll share them another time. It's almost tomorrow now, and so to bed!
